  • CAN I SCHEDULE GUITAR LESSONS AT A TIME THAT IS CONVENIENT TO ME?
    We try our best to accommodate our students' schedules and offer a range of lesson times to choose from. When you sign up for lessons, you will be able to select a time that works best for you.
  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY FIRST GUITAR LESSON?
    If you're taking an in-person lesson, you should bring your own guitar to the lesson. If you don't have one yet, don't worry – we'll help you choose a suitable guitar for your needs.
  • CAN I CHOOSE THE SONGS I WANT TO LEARN IN MY GUITAR LESSONS?
    Yes, you can choose the songs that you want to learn in your guitar lessons. We will work with you to identify your goals and help you choose music that is suitable for your skill level and interests.
  • HOW MUCH DO GUITAR LESSONS COST?
    The cost of a guitar lesson is $75 per hour. I do offer discounted packages. Please feel free to contact me for more information.
  • ARE THE GUITAR LESSONS ONLINE OR IN-PERSON?
    Guyguitarlessons.com offers both online and in-person guitar lessons. Please specify your preference when signing up for lessons.
  • HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR GUITAR LESSONS?
    To sign up for guitar lessons, simply visit guyguitarlessons.com and fill in the contact form. From there, we will contact you to answer all your questions and schedule a free first lesson.
  • HOW OFTEN SHOULD I PRACTICE?
    The key to practicing guitar isn’t length but consistency. Play for short periods of time no more than 20 minutes a day as a beginner. Make sure to play every day for at least 5 days out of the week to stay consistent. I recommend not starting out with long practice sessions, but if you chose to, be sure to take a break every 20 minutes.
  • DO I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO READ MUSIC BEFORE TAKING GUITAR LESSONS?
    It's not necessary to know how to read music before taking guitar lessons, but it can be helpful. We will teach you how to read tabs as part of your lesson plan.
  • HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO LEARN MY FIRST SONG?
    Playing the guitar and learning a song successfully isn’t about talent, it’s about effort. The time it takes to learn your first song is different for everyone and is dependent on how much effort you put in. If you put in the necessary effort and devote yourself learning a basic song, you might be playing it in about a week.
  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM A BEGINNER GUITAR LESSON?
    During a beginner guitar lesson, we will teach you the basics of guitar playing, including how to hold the guitar, how to strum chords, and how to play simple melodies. You can expect to learn at a pace that's comfortable for you.
  • WHAT PICK SHOULD I USE?
    A lighter pick will produce a clearer and thinner tone while a heavy pick will produce a mellow tone. Depending on the type of music you want to play, different picks can be more useful. For a beginner guitarist who will most likely be strumming chords, a lighter pick would fit better to make each chord sound clearer.

  • WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO LEARN GUITAR?
    The earlier you start the better. Experts recommend starting as early as age 7 but believe you are never too old for the guitar.

  • DO I NEED TO PURCHASE A GUITAR BEFORE MY FIRST LESSON?
    You do not necessarily need to purchase a guitar before your first lesson. Many instructors have guitars available for their students to use during the lesson. However, it is generally recommended that you have your own guitar to practice on between lessons.
  • SHOULD I PLAY THE GUITAR SITTING OR STANDING?
    In terms of physical health, standing up while playing the guitar is healthier. It puts less strain on your back as you aren’t hunched over the instrument to see the chords and strings. Both sitting and standing require different body mechanics. Playing standing may feel weird at first but getting used to it and learning the mechanics is worth it, so you don’t hurt your back. Neither sitting nor standing will affect the quality of your play.
  • IS MUSICAL TALENT INHERITED OR LEARNED?
    Both genetics and everyday experiences contribute to musical talent. Scientists discovered that some musical talent is inherited, and it favors people who have the “ear” for music. However, they can agree that most of learning an instrument comes from practice and devotion.
  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN GUITAR?
    The amount of time it takes to learn guitar will vary depending on your natural aptitude, how much time you are able to dedicate to practice, and your learning style. Some people may be able to pick up the basics relatively quickly, while others may take longer to progress.
